Fat embolism syndrome in COVID-19

A 56-year-old obese, diabetic female who presented with breathlessness. She tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR. A complete blood count showed pancytopenia with a flag on the instrument for a clot (see picture above). The primary EDTA tube in which the blood was collected showed a yellow fat deposit on the tube wall. A wet mount showed fat globules. The peripheral smear displayed neutrophils with fat globules.
