Elderly man with hemoglobin 8.9 g/dl, normochromic anemia, normal white count, normal platelet count. Serum iron saturation 17%, Hepcidin 100 ng/ml, Ferritin 240 ng/ml. Marked increase in bone marrow iron stores in the macrophages by Prussian Blue staining by Perl's stain.
