Binucleate and multinucleated erythroblasts in the marrow with congenital dyserythropoietic anemia type II occurring in a 40-year-old woman.

This is an autosomal recessive condition and is generally asymptomatic. This has been characterized due to mutations in the SEC23B gene and specifically, Type II congenital dyserythropoietic anemia red cells are characterized by susceptibility to lysis in acid serum and hence the name"hereditary erythrocyte multinuclearity with positive acid serum lysis" (HEMPAS).
