Peripheral smear from an 18 year old Black female who had a routine CBC performed as part of her prenatal laboratory studies. Her hemoglobin was 11.5 g/dL and her RBC indices were normal. The most striking finding on the smear is the presence of numerous target cells. In addition, there are crystal-like structures present in several RBCs and a few dense microspherocytes.
