This is a case of a 24 years old female patient with cholecystitis who underwent cholecystectomy surgery. She has also recently undergone splenectomy surgery. The following results were obtained When the patient sample was assessed by automated cell counter:

WBC: 53900 (µL) / RBC: 4230000 (µL) / Hb: 11 (g/dL) / HCT: 31 (%) / MCV: 73.3 (fL) / RDW-CV: 15.4 (%) / PLT: 248000 (µL) / MPV: 12.4

After examination of peripheral blood film and observation of NRBCs, we corrected the WBC count to 21000 (µL). presence of NRBCs, Hypersegmented neutrophils, toxic granulation of neutrophils alongside with the shift to the left (presence of myelocytes and band cells) and mild microcytic hypochromic anemia (anemia of chronic disease) were consistent with patient’s recent condition (cholecystitis and splenectomy).

Also we observed large platelets and corrected count of platelet was 210000 (µL).
